Key Stats: RF Óscar Mercado 2-for-5, 2 2B; 3B Eguy Rosario 0-for-4, 4 K, HBP; LF Calvin Mitchell 1-for-4, 3B, OF Assist; SS Mason McCoy 2-for-3, 2B, BB; RHP Randy Vásquez 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R (2 ER), 6 K, 2 BB; RHP Kevin Kopps 0.2 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 3 BB; RHP Sean Reynolds 1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, K, 2 BB
Prospect Watch: Randy Vásquez battled through four-and-a-third innings for the Chihuahuas, giving up two earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks. The 25-year-old, who’s already had two stints with the Padres this year, continued to show a nasty curve ball, getting whiffs on eight of the 11 swings against it. The pitch continues to average more than 3100 RPM, which would rank in the top five in the Majors. Vásquez, however, went to his fastballs 48 times, got just three swings-and-misses, and landed just four for called strikes. The control issues left his pitch count at 92 when he exited the game with one out in the fifth. … The top four in the Chihuahuas lineup went a combined 0-for-16 with 10 strikeouts. Eguy Rosario and Graham Pauley, who both came into the game on a hot streak, combined to punch out seven times in 10 trips to the plate. … Conversely, Óscar Mercado, Mason McCoy, and Chandler Seagle each had a pair of hits, including three doubles.
Wichita Wind Surge 3, Missions 1
Key Stats: SS Ray-Patrick Didder 2-for-4; 3B Clay Dungan 1-for-3, BB, SB (4); RHP Jared Kollar 4 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 1 BB, HBP; RHP Yovanny Cruz 2 IP, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, HBP

Prospect Watch: The Missions offense continued to struggle Sunday afternoon, putting together just five singles, including one hit through the first five innings. As a team, San Antonio has a .204/.313/.304 line – each of the three are the lowest in the Texas League. Ray-Patrick Didder had two hits on the day to nudge his OPS up to .707. He’s one of just two Missions above .700 on the year. … Righty Jared Kollar wasn’t at his best but still held his own across four-plus innings of work. The 2022 undrafted free agent surrendered three runs on six hits, striking out four. Relying on an over-the-top delivery, the 25-year-old has posted a 3.53 ERA across nine appearances, including six starts. He blew through Fort Wayne in the first half of last year and has given the Missions quality work across 88.1 innings since arriving in the Texas League last June.

Prospect Watch: Two days after his start was cut short by rain on Friday night, Henry Baez returned to make another start rather than throw a bullpen session, and the righty dominated. Over four innings of work, the 21-year-old righty allowed just one hit over four innings, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out three. He needed just 48 pitches to get through his outing. Baez has struggled with big innings this year but has shown flashes with a fastball that can reach the upper 90s and the makings of a real weapon with his changeup. He has a 4.46 ERA with 37 strikeouts across 34.1 innings for the season. … Tyler Morgan, who has been the club’s most reliable long man out of the bullpen, kept the Lugnuts in check through his first two innings of relief. Still, they opened the seventh with four straight singles, bringing all four around to score. A 14th-round pick out of Abilene Christian University last year, Morgan has gone at least three innings in five of his 12 appearances. … The TinCaps offense scattered seven hits through the game but only strung three together in the eighth inning to plate their only run. Homer Bush Jr. had the club’s only extra-base hit of the game, a double with two outs in the first inning. He promptly stole third for his league-leading 24th of the season but was left stranded. The club went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position on the day.
San Jose Giants 10, Storm 2
Key Stats: SS Leo De Vries 1-for-4, SB (2); CF Braedon Karpathios 1-for-4, 2B; RHP Miguel Mendez 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 4 BB; RHP Dwayne Matos 2.2 IP, H, K; RHP Luis German IP, 0 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 3 BB, 2 WP, Balk
Prospect Watch: Lake Elsinore got a leadoff single from Leo De Vries, then loaded the bases when a pitch hit Jacob Campbell and Romeo Sanabria walked. Rosman Verdugo then lofted a sacrifice fly to center, but Sanabria was thrown out at second, trying to advance as the trail runner. Braedon Karpathios followed with a double to give the Storm a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The club didn’t collect another hit during the game, and the final 23 batters went down in a row. Miguel Mendez only made it through 1.1 innings. While he didn’t allow a hit, he walked four, including three, to load the bases in the second before giving way. The 21-year-old righty only landed 21 of his 43 pitches for strikes. That lack of control was something of a theme for Storm pitchers on the day. Luis German gave up three runs without surrendering a hit in his inning of work. After working a scoreless fifth, he opened the sixth inning by hitting a batter, issuing three walks, and uncorking a pair of wild pitches. The hard-throwing reliever, who signed prior to the 2022 season as a 20-year-old, has walked 18 in 14.1 innings this year.
